Hire & Vehicle Information

There are several requirements that you must meet in order to hire a vehicle from us. These requirements can change depending on your age.

In general, you need to:

  • Have a full driving licence held for at least 12 months.
  • Have 9 or less penalty points*. Please note if you have above 9 points or have a DD, DR or BA endorsement within the last 5 years you are not able to hire from us.
  • Be aged between 21** and 75.
  • Have your own credit card or debit card for means of payment and pre-authorised deposit (£350 over 25's).

* Please note an additional excess charge will be required if you have more than 3 penalty points and, for insurance purposes, penalty points stay on your license for 4 years. Please let us know of any points or endorsement on your license at the time of booking.

** Hirers aged between 21 and 22 are limited to the size of vehicle they can hire and come under stricter insurance criteria. For example, you can only drive up to a small car (Toyota Aygo / Fiat 500 or similar) or up to a SWB Van (Fiat Scudo or similar) and must have held a full clean driving license for at least 2 years. They must have an accident free record.

Hirers aged 23 and over can drive any vehicle (except for multi seat vehicles) and must have held a license for at least 12 months.

To hire a multi seat vehicle or minibus, hirers must be aged 25 or over and must have held a full driving license for at least 2 years and have the necessary category on their license (for 9 seats or more only).

Hirers aged between 21 and 24 will also be liable for a higher security excess and a £750 deposit.

For long term rentals and overseas rentals we would ask you to estimate your weekly/monthly/yearly mileage and we would calculate the rental price based on this figure.

For standard rentals the mileage limit is equivalent to 200 miles per 24 hour hire i.e. 72 hour hire = 600 miles.

Excess mileage will be charged at 37pence per mile.

We allow one driver free of charge. Additional drivers must qualify with our insurance requirements and we must see their full licence. Each additional driver will be charged a percentage of the rental cost.

All of our vehicles are provided with a full tank of fuel unless otherwise stated. All vehicles should be returned to us with a full tank of fuel, otherwise a refuelling charge will apply.  Fuel receipts must be shown at the end of the hire to demonstrate the vehicle has been refuelled locally and equal amount to mileage driven.

The minimum hire period for cars is 1 day.

Where possible a half day hire may be available for a van, not at weekends.

Weekend hires are for the whole of the weekend i.e. 48 hours, in respect of our opening hours.

Our office is open between 0800hrs and 1745hrs, Monday to Friday. We are also open on Saturdays between 0800hrs and 1245hrs, closed Sundays and Bank Holidays. If you can't get to us during these times, please contact us with your requirements and we will do our best to help. We also have an out of hours or emergency contact number for customers who currently have a vehicle onhire - 0333 207 9654 (United Incident Support - Accident Report )

Our special weekend prices start from 1200hrs on Friday to 0800hrs on the following Monday. If you require the vehicle a little sooner or would like to drop it back a little later this may be possible depending on availability and other bookings.

All of our vehicles are available for overseas hire, as long as they are returned to the UK. We also need to know in advance if you are planning on travelling overseas in order to arrange the necessary paperwork, overseas insurance, breakdown cover and touring kit. There are extra costs for continental travel, so make sure you mention this when getting a quote. We will need to know what country you are travelling too, the dates of travel and the driver’s details for quotation purposes.

Please note some countries prohibit the entry of a vehicle from the UK but we can advise you of this at the time of booking.

We can offer a range of vehicle hire options for any length of time where posssible and prices are calculated on our weekly 7 day rate.. We are happy to quote for any duration. Please contact us for more information or a quotation.

We are a single branch business and cannot offer one way hire.

All of our hire vehicles have emergency breakdown cover so should you breakdown or have any vehicle problems, the best option is to call us on +44 (0) 1903 820800 during opening hours or 0333 207 9654 (United Incident Support)  for our out of hours emergency number. We will then organise the best solution for you. Please have your exact location and a mobile telephone number available to aid any breakdown assistance.

You need to notify us as soon as possible and follow the procedure laid down in our terms and conditions, out of hours please call our (Accident Report Line 24/7/365 on 0333 207 9654).We would ask you to record as many details of the other driver and vehicle as possible and also, if you have a camera phone or similar, take some photographs of the damage, location and any other vehicles involved. For most accidents, we will require you to complete an Accident Report Form for insurance purposes.

You will initially be charged the security excess, although this would be refunded if we recover the accident costs from a third party. If the damage amounts to less than the excess, you will only be charged for the actual cost of repairs and refunded any remaining money.

We have two high top medium wheel base Ford Transit Trend vans which have a towbar. An additional charge will be made to cover the additional Insurance.  The hirer needs to have had previous experience of driving a van and of towing.

This all depends on the exact size of the furniture you are trying to move, but most single items of furniture will fit into a long wheel base transit van. You should refer to the section 'vans' on our website and click into 'more info' where you will find the internal and external dimensions of that vehicle for you to calculate which van would suit your needs.

Depending on how much furniture you have, the best option would be a 3.5ton Luton Van long wheel base with tail lift. A 3.5ton Luton Van will hold approximately 16m3. If you would like to check the size of any vehicle in person, you are welcome to visit and look inside the vehicles before deciding.  The Vauxhall Movano is a long wheel base van and, dependent upon how much you have to move, the high top medium wheel base Ford Transit Trend may be a useful vehicle for you and more manageable if you are not so used to driving a van or have a smaller area to park in.

We would prefer that you didn't, but providing that you protect the vehicle's interior and accept that you will be charged for any damage caused by the animal and additional cleaning, particularly if we have to remove dog hairs, we would permit it.

This is something you should discuss with us before making a booking.
